I don’t know what happened to me over the holidays, but I had some type of style renaissance, rebirth when it comes to shopping and styling my twin boys who are 6. Now, granted they are Manhattanites (which means I dress them in black most times) and maybe we can get away with wearing almost anything but I think most moms and store or web owners are always looking for something different. Something super cool for these kids. I mean, we spend $900 for a stroller, why shouldn’t we be thinking about the full picture? There’s a mom in one of kids classes who sneaks behind one of my boys and checks out the back label of his hoodies and tee-shirts on occasion. SO I needed to change it up a little. We were being replicated! I had been having this love affair with dressing the kiddies like little Lenny Kravitz hippie dudes. True Religion cords with the extra wide legs, furry sweatshirts, faded denim, etc. But they needed a new look-which is well, an old look, but should only really be worn by the 12 and under set. I became obsessed with dressing the guys like little surfing punk rockers! (Jump for more!)

My good friend and fellow grade school mom, Caryn (a former fashion editor and mom of a girl and a baby boy) and I do a web crawl at night. Over coffee we discuss and plot the day. Over the holidays we found amazing stuff for the little dudes. Cut to the chase: I simply do not want to have another baggy jean or carpenter jean on my guys. I suddenly started craving stove pipe skinny jeans. Where? H&M kids. They’re called Drains. Not the Squins. DRAINS. $18-$24.00. Price is right and they’re damn cute. Can’t get there? Tillys.com has skinnies from Levi’s boys (Skinny Super Fit Boys Jeans $29.99 in these glorious colors!) and Volcom $39.99.
It didn’t stop there…we wanted to buy hoodies that looked different. Over to upandriding.com-Hurley hoodies for the lil guys to look like mini boarders ($49.00 and up) . Not oversized, more fitted. We discovered amazing t-shirts from Tuttibella.com to find Munster from Australia. These t-shirts are so friggin cool. You get the idea…the stripe, the rebel rock tee’s…($34.00 and up).
Then we ended up at Macys and saw what was maybe the craziest amazing thing ever: Ed Hardy sheets and duvet sets ($249-$350 and a 300 thread count). Normally, I would have gone running screaming in the other direction but for some reason, these fuchsia sheets with skulls on them appealed to us. They’re kind of great for a girls room. And then back to Tillys.com they have some wild style black and white sheets that would match a pair of Vans in a heartbeat. ($139-$159. Comforter, flat sheet, fitted sheet, 1 standard pillow sham, I standard pillow case and 1 accent pillow!)
I am sure in two months my entire focus will shift but for now, the labels keep getting looked at and isn’t this what it’s all about anyway?
