Like mother like daughter. Although this is taking it a bit far. Suri was seen wearing a mini version of the Ferragamo Sofia while mom had the full size. This makes me wonder what bag Suri will use when she actually needs to start using bags. I love spoiling my girls so I don't want to sound totally hypocritical, but I do worry that I am setting them up for disappointments in life if they don't always get what they want. And who really gets everything in life? Better to teach them the lesson early on. And seriously, does she even care if her bag is Ferragamo or one made of pink felt?

I have a question - I'm looking for a stylish and practical baby bag. I know there are so many bags out there but they are all ugly!! Does becoming a mother mean that I have to give up style? Is there some sort of gizmo that I convert a bag I use into a baby bag and still retain my fashion sense?
HELP,
Expecting
Dear Expecting,
First of all, congratulations! And no, becoming a mommy does not mean you have to give up style. In fact, since becoming a mommy, I have never been more radiant and stylish =) As to your conundrum, YES, there is in fact a gizmo that turns all bags into a mommy bag. I bought diaper bags but never used them because like you said, it made me feel like being a mom meant that I had to step down from fashion. There are so many options, but basically all you need is a wash bag. Anya Hindmarch has a "Nappies and Wipes" nylon zipper pouch ($150, in black or purple) made just for this exact need. Oh, how she knows what we need! Another fun choice is the Marni Pochette Washbag ($170). You just need to get a diaper changing pad and a travel wipe holder (easy and easier), add your essentials and you're ready to go!
A couple of notes when choosing the right bag to use: make sure the shoulder straps fit comfortably and that there are plenty of organizational pockets. I would not use a super nice bag for newborns but as your tot gets bigger the messes will lessen so you can move up to your Chanel, etc. Totes are great but consider the practicality of not being able to get it on the shoulder. Or find one that will. Tod's is my all time fave - either the softy or the Bauletto Helmut tote!

What? Someone finally decided to make a round diaper changing pad? It's only been 2 million years of babies ignoring the fact that they need to stay within the confines of a rectagular boundary during a daiper change. I've actually given up on caring, laying down the pad is just a formality for me now that I allow my Tot to touch whatever and eat anything she finds in the cracks of her carseat. Second child, what can I say? But still, round pad is a great idea!! Even has pockets for wipes and the diaper so it's all you need to bridng to the bathroom. Manhattan Momma Changing Pad at Giggle for $60.
UPDATE: Congratulations! Our Idiom Einstein Bag Winner is Cecilia C., New York, NY

Cool dads need cool bags. I do feel sorry for my husband when I see him walking down the street carrying my very girly bag because it is too heavy for me to carry. He is such a good sport and for his efforts, I think he should be rewarded. That's why we are giving away a special bag just for Dads. This Einstein painted bag by Idiom is easy to use and hip enough for him to use away from the tots, as well. To win this trendy messenger, tell us, "What is the cutest thing your baby daddy done?". Last night on a flight, my husband let our 2 year old cover him in Minnie Mouse stickers and he had to walk around all day with them on. It's small things like that that makes me smile and love him so much!
Put your answers in comments by November 30th, 11:59pm EST. One entry per person. The one with the best story will be the winner as voted on by the Snob team. The value of the bag is $150. Thank you Sari from Luxcouture for sponsoring! They always have the most cutting edge designers.
I just got back from a 2 week trip to Taiwan with my 2 tots. Traveling with tots is just not easy, plain and simple. No matter how well organized and planned out you are, you cannot predict illness, irrational tantrums and inexplicable hunger. I still try to be as prepared as possible, which means, I bring a ton of stuff!! And the stuff just accumulates as the trip gets more hectic. My older daughter got sick, she was throwing up, had a fever and a tummy ache. Which means, for the rest of the trip, I am hauling around several changes of clothes, an ear thermometer, Tylenol, Motrin, baby Tums, easy to eat foods like crackers, bread and plain pasta, etc. I had my bag full of stuff and an extra paper shopping bag for the overflow. The moral of this story is: bring an extra bag with you at all times!! And for me, it is time to upgrade to something nice like this packable and washable nylon tote from Gucci. Someone there knows the pains of parenthood because it does seem like with the teddy bear hanging from it that it was meant for just my predicament!! It is the perfect size at 15" x 15". At Saks Fifth Avenue for $355.

My toiletry bag is very special to me, it is what keeps me sane and feeling secure when I'm traveling. OK, I might have some unresolved issues but the point is, I like to have my things with me and this is especially important when traveling with tots. You must have all their medication, bandaids, nail trimmer, boo boo fixers, etc. because we all know what will happen if you forget!! You must have a very special toiletry bag for all this "Can't leave home without" items and these Stephen Joseph Buddy Bags are the most super adorable things ever. They are terry exterior with your favorite animal friend on it but the interior is lined with polyester so you won't have to worry about spills. I have a terry toiletry bag and it holds up pretty well. I said, "pretty well" because of course it won't last forever, about a couple of years if you travel a lot. But you've got your money's worth by then. Choose from a variety of designs but my favorites are the Duck Buddy Bag for the appropriateness of theme and the Monkey Buddy Bag Monkey
because, who doesn't love monkeys? Approx. 7" x 7.5" x 5.5" , for $21.99 at Amazon.
If you must have the function of a proper diaper bag, this quilted Chloe is one of the cutest I've seen. And not too bad for dad to be seen with either! It is super sweet for a newborn to have everything just so and this stylish bag with leather trim and all the trimmings will make you feel like you've got all your ducks in a row. Magnetic flap with zipper closure, front and side pockets and interior pockets galore. Comes with a changing pad and detachable and adjustable shoulder strap that goes from 13"-21". Sometimes, something as simple as having the right accessories when you leave the house can make even the most hectic trips much easier to handle. And that says a lot because if we can just lessen the hectic in parenthood, we will be way ahead of the game! At Saks Fifth Avenue for $650.
Dads need a bag, too. One that is functional (FYI backpacks are not as functional as they seem), hip and yes, that's right, manly. These S Stein Baby bags are the best I've seen for Dads and it is cute enough for Moms! The interior is fully compartmentalized for every little thing so that you can find things in an instant. I don't think it's a coincidence that it resembles a tool box. The canvas with leather trim is durable and lightweight, as well as, very stylish. The straps go from 32" to 38" but if you have tall on your side, they are able to do a custom strap length, which is a very nice service! Comes in a variety of colors but the blue and olive is hands down the best combo. For $395 at S Stein Design.
If you have swim class this summer, please raise your hand. My daughter is taking swim class twice a week this summer and I already have issue with the tote bag I'm using for her swim gear. Things get kind of nasty in there with the sunscreen and musty wet clothes and towels. I find myself wanting to throw the whole thing in the wash because this towel cleaning thing I'm doing just isn't cutting it. So when I saw this Terry bag, I was all over it. You can throw it in the wash once a week for the only perfectly clean bag in the whole class (probably in your whole neighborhood!!). And the monogramming is a nice touch just so you don't have to write your tot's name on the bag with a sharpie (the school requires that everything have her name on it). Also great for travel and toting toys to Grandma's house. At the Beans Closet for $80, comes in 20 colors. They are having a sale, save 10% on purchases of $199 or more, discount increases with amount spent, up to 25% on $500 or more.
I am not a messy person but if you saw my car on a bad day, you would probably be afraid to come to my house. I try to take out the trash and keep everything nice and neat, but according to my husband, I am not trying hard enough. So I now have a trash bag in the car and the sight of it is worst than trash. Besides, it float around the car, sitting on the floor or seat, not really solving any problems. These totally adorable designs by Allyson Hill is a fantastic solution. OK, you can't throw your daily Starbuck's cup in there (just one!) or take out bags but if you can just get rid of crumbs (or things that eventually becomes crumbs), wrappers and wipes, it is one less trip the car wash. It lined with a plastic trash bag and has a handy strap that hooks to your seat or whatever is handy for your car. Allyson Hill Auto Trash is $19 and comes in 20 tot and grown up designs.
