Kushies Easy Fold Baby Bed

user-pic

kushieseasyfoldbed.jpgkushiespackage.jpg

It is the holiday travel season and the last thing you need is getting weighted down with bulky luggage, like a Pack 'n Play. This easy to fold bed fits in a regular suitcase when closed and the fabric construction makes it super lightweight. It is a pretty darn cute bassinet for something so low maintenance! And when summer comes around, it is the perfect napper with UV protected fabric (but of course, make sure you cover your tot completely with another blanket for the legs and feet). Comes with a comfy padding. The Kushies Easy Fold Bed is $69.99, comes in blue, pink and green for tots up to 12 months.

Udaipur Crib Set by Rickshaw Design

user-pic

Udaipur_cribset.jpg

Baby baby decor is totally last year. You should avoid crayola and powder colored anything! Babies are humans too and they deserve better =) But to be totally practical, you will get way more longevity with decor that is not strictly meant for newborns. It will also stay upbeat and interesting to you for longer because once your tot grows out of infancy, you want that stage to pass along with any and all reminders of sleepness nights and inconsolable crying. If you love eclectic, this Rickshaw crib set will fit right in with your house like a glove. The bright and vibrant colors will set the mood and keep the entire family happy. It does come with a bumper, which is a bummer since I am kind of against the potentially suffocating and ladder like contraption. But unfortunately you have to pay for it in this set even if you don't use it. I wish stores would start offering the option to buy without bumpers! I think I might contact them about this! Udaipur Crib Set at Giggle for $380.

BedBugz Portable Bed Bolster

user-pic
bedbugz_portablebedbolster.jpg

I have a long story as to why I am putting my tot on this bed but the bottom line is, she has to be here and this bed does not allow for traditional bed rails because of the platform frame. We have piled pillows along the sides but of course that is not fool proof. This is also not her permanent bed so I can't switch out the furniture so the best thing was to find the best solution for this situation. I found these inflatable bolsters in white which makes it look like another pillow, kind of. It inflates with a foot pump, not something you want to do everyday but for a one time deal it is fine (took about 10 minutes). There is a surprisingly nice white cover that goes over the plastic inner tube, it's soft and has a slight sheen like high thread count sheets do. It is secured on the mattress with a thick elastic band and is adjusted and tightened using a buckle, which is very easy to do. The buckle tucks under the top mattress which means you have to secure it before you fit it on so this could take a couple of tries before you get the best fit - not a big deal at all. This is not going to be as safe as a bed rail because it is easy to dislodge and shove off the bed if your tots decide to play some sort of game with it but for bigger toddlers, it is enough to stop them from rolling off the bed in their sleep. Definitely good enough as an alternative if you are unable to get a bed with a railing or a traditional bed rail, and plus, it looks so much nicer! At Amazon.com for $49.99. Also comes in prints and other solid colors but trust me, the white is the only acceptable one.

Clouds and Stars Quick Zip Crib Sheets

user-pic

cloudsandstars_organic.jpgcloudsandstars_SolidCorners.gif

I have been using the Ultimate Crib Sheet ($16.99) and been generally happy even though they're not the cutest and don't sit perfectly flat on the bed. But hey, they do the job, easy change after accidents. Well, now that I am almost out of crib sheets, I discover these Quick Zip Crib Sheets. The starter kit (the organic set is $53.99) comes with a mattress base and a sheet that zips on to the top of it. Easy on, easy off - no need to mess with lifting the mattress and messing up the bed skirt. You start the zipper on one end and zip all the way around. The zipper is covered so it never touches the baby. Once you have the starter kit, all you need are additional top sheets ($18.99), which comes in solid and gingham. It doesn't get easier than this and on super late sleepy nights, you will appreciate these beyond measure.

Hästens - Bed for the King of Sweden

user-pic
hasten_cribmattress.jpg

My very serious back problem has led me on a hunt for a mattress that has equal amounts of give and support so that my spine stays absolutely straight while I sleep. This search has led me to Hästens, the absolute most high end of beds, in fact, the King of Sweden sleeps on one of these. The prices range from a steep $6,500 to a whopping $67,500. It sounds ridiculous but these beds are so amazingly comfortable that I am about to sell all my worldly processions to buy one. The prices vary depending on thickness of mattress, thus amount of material used. Everything is 100% organic (genuine horsehair for absorption of heat and moisture and allows proper ventilation), and it's all handmade and comes with a lifetime guarantee. It is hard to justify the price tag without first hand account - it is like sleeping on a cloud! They make a crib mattress that has all the benefits but is only $700. They offer this without a markup because they understand the importance of proper sleep for babies and kids (and well, to get them hooked while their young!). The children's mattress cover is machine washable. I would seriously consider this if you are in the market for a crib mattress because you are getting something really extraordinary for a high but still accessible price. Rebel Yell

user-pic
rebelyell.jpg I don't know what happened to me over the holidays, but I had some type of style renaissance, rebirth when it comes to shopping and styling my twin boys who are 6. Now, granted they are Manhattanites (which means I dress them in black most times) and maybe we can get away with wearing almost anything but I think most moms and store or web owners are always looking for something different. Something super cool for these kids. I mean, we spend $900 for a stroller, why shouldn't we be thinking about the full picture? There's a mom in one of kids classes who sneaks behind one of my boys and checks out the back label of his hoodies and tee-shirts on occasion. SO I needed to change it up a little. We were being replicated! I had been having this love affair with dressing the kiddies like little Lenny Kravitz hippie dudes. True Religion cords with the extra wide legs, furry sweatshirts, faded denim, etc. But they needed a new look-which is well, an old look, but should only really be worn by the 12 and under set. I became obsessed with dressing the guys like little surfing punk rockers! (Jump for more!)

Hushamock Experience

user-pic

hushamok.jpg

Here is an innovative and great looking alternative to a baby swing to sooth your little precious to deep, happy sleep. And the benefits go beyond just the glorious snoozing, the contours of the sleeping pad reduces the risk of flat head syndrome in infants, the varied sleep position options help colic or acid reflux, the back-to-sleep position prevent SIDS and the soft swaying motion is very comforting for restless sleepers (we all know how awesome napping is on a hammock!). The really cool looking Hushamock is also very lightweight and portable so you can transport this to whichever room you're in, or even take it on the road with you (it comes with a travel bag). The hammock is 100% organic cotton, the mattress is hypoallergenic and machine-washable and it come with two 400 count fitted sheets! Comes in blue green natural orange and pink, $379.99 at Magic Beans.

Organic crib mattress from Pixel Organics

user-pic

organicmattress.jpgI try to buy organic food when possible, and it only makes sense to buy as many organic household products, as I can, as well. It’s really nice that so many companies are coming out with organic offerings. The more we can limit chemical exposure for ourselves and our kids, the better! Pixel Organics’ organic natural rubber crib mattress is made by hand in Los Angeles. It features a very soft organic cotton cover and a quilted layer made with organic wool to provide natural cooling and moisture wicking. This is a great feature for infants that can easily get hot when sleeping because this has been linked to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

The rubber core is made of firm Sri Lankan rubber. And we all know a firm mattress is another crucial factor to help prevent SIDS. There are no chemicals present in the mattress, and no chemicals used in the manufacturing. In addition, the rubber is known for its hypoallergenic qualities, and is resistant to molds, mildews and dust mites, which would be very beneficial for a child with allergies. At Mason Matisse for $460.

Go Organic from Bath to Bed

user-pic

Organic food trends started a few years ago and now more mommies want everything organic for their sweetie pies. In the age when everyone is “going green”, what does this new organic craze really mean? Now, manufacturers produce a ton of organic items from clothes to bubble bath just so your baby can get the purest. Organic cotton, similar to organic fruits and veggies, is grown without the use of insecticides or pesticides. However, the benefit is two-fold: not only does your baby have the purest fibers touching his or her skin, but the production of organic cotton causes no pollution that harms the environment. Organic bath products use ingredients grown without fertilizers or pesticides. Read about a few of Tot Snob’s favorite organic products:

California Baby

The developer, a vegetarian, uses ingredients from plants and flowers. Only two animal products are used lanolin made from sheep’s wool and beeswax. Great for babies with sensitive skin or skin irritations such as eczema. Still not sold? Try the bath tote (above). I promise you will be back to buy the full-size soon.
