Offi Mini Drawer Doodle Desk

offi_doodledrawer_big.jpg

Get your kids off to the right start at home with this cute and beautiful mini desk! It is perfect for drawing and activities that require concentration. It even has a little drawer for pens, crayon and other little things. This offers a smaller alternative if you want to put this in the bedroom or even your office! I have the giant craft table in the playroom but this would be great for the living room where I don't have a lot of space for more tot gear (as it is the rest of the house has been taken over by tot stuff!). It also comes in blue, at Modernmini for $215

Here is an innovative and great looking alternative to a baby swing to sooth your little precious to deep, happy sleep. And the benefits go beyond just the glorious snoozing, the contours of the sleeping pad reduces the risk of flat head syndrome in infants, the varied sleep position options help colic or acid reflux, the back-to-sleep position prevent SIDS and the soft swaying motion is very comforting for restless sleepers (we all know how awesome napping is on a hammock!). The really cool looking Hushamock is also very lightweight and portable so you can transport this to whichever room you're in, or even take it on the road with you (it comes with a travel bag). The hammock is 100% organic cotton, the mattress is hypoallergenic and machine-washable and it come with two 400 count fitted sheets! Comes in blue green natural orange and pink, $379.99 at Magic Beans.

Rocker N' Bench

I don't know about you but I am running out of room in my house for all the kids' stuff. And trust me, the entire house is their realm so it's not like I am limiting their toys to one tiny room. That's why I can appreciate this two-in-one see saw rocker AND table bench. This is easy to assemble (yes, of course it requires assembly, doesn't everything?) and flips around to transform it from one use to another. The plastic construction makes this versatile for outdoors and in. I have a wood work table that is now a big mess, I have to get it refinished to get all the stains and spills off. This you can just hose down in the garden and maybe give it a light scrub if you have encrusted peanut butter and Play-Doh everywhere. The price is easy as well, $99.95 at Sensational Beginnings.

"Laundry Day" Hamper

laundryhamperbig.jpg

Here is a good way to get your Tot to clean her room. Or at least just the dirty laundry part. My daughter goes to a Montessori preschool where she obediently cleans up after herself all day long but when she gets home, it's as if she is making up for lost time with her trail of destruction! I am not sure if bribing her with cute domestic apparatus is the right way to parent but at least she will have fun putting away her clothes while it looks cute sitting in the corner. But I can imagine what my new problem will be; all the clean clothes from her drawers will undoubtedly end up on this hamper as well. What can you do? This works like a laundry shoot, clothes go in from the top and you unload it from the bottom. Assembly is required but what isn't? $145 at The Beans Closet.

Happy Cat Beanbag Chair

There is one thing all kids love - chairs, of every sort and variety. But there is one type in particular they especially love, the beanbag. Yes, there are loads of beanbags out there and they all work the same, but this one is truly unique and has a feature that is totally ingenious. They have ears!! These pointed cat ears act like a chair back but what they are really for is dragging! When you bought your tot a beanbag, you did not realize you signed up for a part-time job as mover. The points make it easy for small hands to get a grip. Plus, this is so much cuter than your average beanbag! I know it's scary to think about Christmas already, but this would make a great gift! Happy Cat Beanbag Chair at Giggle.com for $258. Comes in turquoise, brown, pink and red.

Tot's Rug by Arzu Firuz

Ever since I got Serena & Lily's Nursery Style book, I have been obsessing over my girls' new room. I am planning my renovation and realizing the value of designing a room that will last beyond their baby years (my first daughter's nursery became "outdated" by age 2). That is why I love Serena & Lily's book so much, they are entirely child loving but something they will grow into for many many years. Instead of ABC farm animal rugs, they suggested options that are classic, adorable and withstands the test of time. That is why I am loving this circular rug with tasteful cutout of animals - perfect for under the little table and chair set, or in the middle of the room. It is 38.5" in diameter so it is small. At Vivre for $135.

Phil and Ted Traveller

philandted_sleep_traveller.jpg

Travel season is upon us and nothing is ever easy so every bit of convenience is indeed welcome. The most worrisome of all travel inconveniences is the sleeping arrangement for the little one (let's be honest, the toddlers are in the hotel bed with you). You can drag the Pack 'n Play with you but that does not cover all the bases. First of all, it is heavy at 23 lbs. The new Phil and Ted Traveller is feather light at 6 lbs (without mattress), the fabric is waterproof and washable and there is a zip off UV shade cover (sold separately) for outdoor use and mosquito protection (going to Martha's Vineyard and this was a major problem last time we were there). For me the most important feature is the opening at the bottom, I have a bad back so bending down to pick up my very heavy baby is not within my range of motions. It is also a great feature for outdoors use so your baby has freedom to go in and out. There are special legs to stabilize the unit for outdoor use. It is incredibly easy to assemble so no need to be fully awake when you do it, the mattress is self inflating! It is 51" x 31" so when they say it will fit up to 3 years, it is a good sized 3 year old at that. One less thing to worry about and that makes all my upcoming trips all the more enjoyable. Phil and Teds Traveller Full-Size Travel Bed at Amazon for $159.95.

Fat Boy Island Oasis

You know it, your kid is going to love this thing! One look and I knew my daughter would have hours of fun playing on it. I guess lucky for her, her birthday is coming up and this will make it on the short list of gifts she'll get. The best part is that adults can fit and will have something to sit on when playing on the floor with the kids. It always sucks having to sit uncomfortably entertaining the kids on the floor. That is why I bought a craft table but they still spend most of the time on the floor. This beanbag is coated with PVC so don't worry about bringing juice and snacks on this wobbly seater, one wipe and it is clean again. It is $229 and comes in this lime green, red, orange, black and pink. Not exactly decorator colors that will blend in with your nice decor but it is fun and if you have a playroom, it is perfect! At 2 Modern.

Roche-Bobois Modular Sofa

I saw this set while shopping and instantly fell in deep love. It is perfect for the new play room that I am remodeling. This room will have washed green wood floors so I wanted something fun and colorful. This modular set have giant cushions, all sitting right on the floor. There are no corners and everything is washable. I imagine my kids having endless fun rearranging all the pieces and even sleeping on it for slumber parties (you can arrange all the ottoman pieces in front of the sectional to create one giant "bed"). Perfect for kids, right? Yeah, that's what I thought until I asked the price. This picture shows it with the Missoni fabric for $25,000. The one I saw was the Kenzo fabric for $20,000. I guess I should have known, the rest of the store was pretty swanky but I really did not expect giant cushions to cost this much. The nice salesgirl saw the shock on my face and let me know that lesser known designer fabrics will save me $8,000. I don't know, all I can think about is blueberry stains and pee pee accidents. I just don't want the stress of protecting a sofa set that is meant for my kids to do with as they please. Kind of defeats the purpose. But so incredibly fantastic and lust worthy!!! At Roche-Bobois stores.
