user-pic

bethenny_frankel_isabella_oliver.jpg

The Red Dress Collection kicked off Fashion Week in New York with a runway show to aid The Heart Truth, an awareness campaign about women and heart disease. My favorite maternity brand Isabella Oliver was one of the designers featured and it was modeled by Bethenny Frankel. She was wearing the red hot Ruched One Shoulder Dress .

Turn Your Bag Into a Mommy Bag

user-pic
marni_pochette_bag.jpganya_hindmarch_nappies_and_wipes.jpg
Dear Tot Snob,

I have a question - I'm looking for a stylish and practical baby bag. I know there are so many bags out there but they are all ugly!! Does becoming a mother mean that I have to give up style? Is there some sort of gizmo that I convert a bag I use into a baby bag and still retain my fashion sense?

HELP,
Expecting

Dear Expecting,

First of all, congratulations! And no, becoming a mommy does not mean you have to give up style. In fact, since becoming a mommy, I have never been more radiant and stylish =) As to your conundrum, YES, there is in fact a gizmo that turns all bags into a mommy bag. I bought diaper bags but never used them because like you said, it made me feel like being a mom meant that I had to step down from fashion. There are so many options, but basically all you need is a wash bag. Anya Hindmarch has a "Nappies and Wipes" nylon zipper pouch ($150, in black or purple) made just for this exact need. Oh, how she knows what we need! Another fun choice is the Marni Pochette Washbag ($170). You just need to get a diaper changing pad and a travel wipe holder (easy and easier), add your essentials and you're ready to go!

A couple of notes when choosing the right bag to use: make sure the shoulder straps fit comfortably and that there are plenty of organizational pockets. I would not use a super nice bag for newborns but as your tot gets bigger the messes will lessen so you can move up to your Chanel, etc. Totes are great but consider the practicality of not being able to get it on the shoulder. Or find one that will. Tod's is my all time fave - either the softy or the Bauletto Helmut tote!

Egg Baby Gauze Jacket

user-pic

softandsheergauzejacket.jpg

Don't forget the mommies to be on your gift list. If you are looking for something that will be appreciated past pregnancy, this is the perfect gift. This gauze jacket will give any tee shirt / sweat pant ensemble a chic touch. But after the baby is born, there is nothing better than a loose jacket for chilly breastfeeding. And not to mention the must have coverup for that still stretched out tummy. Unfortunately not many of us are blessed with Heidi Klum's abs!! This is so cuddly and soft, exactly what you want while holding your most cuddly and soft bundle! The Egg Baby Soft and Sheer Gauze Jacket is $118, comes in gray, off white or black.

Isabella Oliver - Ruched Tank Dress on Heidi Klum

user-pic

heidiklum_isabellaoliverdress.jpgisabellaoliver_ruchedtankdress.jpg

Wow, look at that tummy on Heidi Klum! She is seriously a super human for always looking so great while pregnant and bouncing back like she just had a big meal. By the time I was this big, I was laid up at home barely able to walk to the car and back (if and when I did leave the house). What is truly amazing though is this tank dress from Isabella Oliver, look how much it stretches!! It looks like space age elastic but really it's just 100% viscose. It is supposed to be ruched but she has stretched it all out, which is the beauty of this design. Wear it alone or under a cardigan for day to evening. At Isabella Oliver for $175.

Denim Therapy Service for Maternity Jeans

user-pic

denimtherapy_maternityjeans.jpg

To jean or not to jean, that is the question when you're pregnant. To be more specific, to designer jean or not. I had a really hard time with this decision and I did not go there with my first pregnancy and then just felt really awful about my state of un-style. So for my second pregnancy I decided to go for the $180 pair of Citizens of Humanity. A few month of wear and now they sit waiting to be handed down to the next family member or friend who wears the same size. What I should have done was do what Denim Therapy is offering now. They take your favorite jeans, put in a side panel for your pregnancy and then restore it back after you're all done. This service is $60 for the back and forth transformation, and if you think about it, it is well worth it because you are not wasting a pair of jeans. That is, if you can get back to your pre-baby size. At least it gives you something to work toward. Or maybe you have a pair that you can't get back into, you can put in the panel so you can! Go to Denim Therapy's site for more info.

Nippies Reusable Waterproof Nipple Pasties

user-pic
courtney-cox-nipple-slip.jpgnippies_shapes.png

It's the summer and we've all gone swimming already at some point. If this HAS NOT happened to you already, I'd be surprised. This picture of Courtney Cox has been circulating but all this could have been prevented if she wore Nippies. When I was taking swim lessons with my tot, this was a daily occurrence because my tot is very timid and was always clambering and clawing at my bathing suit in the water. Everyone at swim class knows me really well, if you know what I mean. That's why these Nippies pasties are essential! I have the Nippies Silicone Nipple Cover to prevent nipple protrusion when going bra-less and they work really well. You can rinse them and reuse them over and over because they are non-adhesive. They mold to your skin with body heat. But they aren't meant to be seen. These shapes Nippies are for wardrobe malfunctions and the fun designs are a nice surprise when accidents happen. At Bristol 6, a set of 2 are $15.

Get the Mom Look: Stella McCartney

user-pic
Stella Mccartney.jpgStella Mccartney 1.jpg
You can partly thank (or blame depending on your stance!), Stella McCartney for bringing back rompers and jumpers. She's been a big fan of them for a few seasons now and most recently wore a lace one to the Met Gala which foreshadowed a number of similar ones she then later showed in her resort show. The mother of three is pictured above looking fab in two similar rompers. Each have a deep-V and a tie around the waist. The look is surprisingly flattering (if you're not too self-conscious about your legs that is...). McCartney has a distinct personal style and besides jumpers, she often wears tuxedo-inspired outfits and is almost always photographed in her own designs. She is confident and seems very secure in her body - and what a body it is! Especially given that she has three children and such a busy career. I'm very excited for McCartney's limited edition kid's collection for the GAP (November 2009), but in the meantime jump to get her hot mama look!

Monica Rich Kosann Jewelry

user-pic
monicarichkosann_titaniumnecklace.pngmonicarichkosann_keyring.png

I saw this collection at Barneys New York and it really took my breath away. Monica Rich Kosann is a photographer, which is why these pieces make sense and are so special. This is real jewelry that is stylish, hip and beautiful - not at all cheesy. There a a lot of jewelry with photos but most are pretty bad. Most of my jewelry have special meaning to me, but still, I won't spend money on something that doesn't hold value as real jewelry. These are so incredible but most of all, they are precious and full of sentimentality. I love the long chunky titanium chains (26") on the Twin Round Titanium Half Locket ($2700) with 18K gold image cases, it is a real fashion item with a bold statement. It is meant to look like a pocket watch fob instead of a typical locket, which is so fab! It does not open, it has the hammered gold or satin finish on one side and the picture on the other. If you love the collection but don't want to spend that much, the Key Ring has the same feel and style and is only $170.
