Dar a Luz Birthing Gown

Dar_a_luz.jpg

Photo courtesy of Dom Miguel Photography

I wish I had this when I had my babies. And not just to serve my vanity but also to make the whole hospital experience more comfortable for my first daughter. She was afraid of the hospital gown when she came to see me and wouldn't let me hold her until I changed. But as far as vanity goes, it is absolutely essential. I mean, is there a time in your life when you felt more unglamorous? Pull your hair back, put on some lip gloss, slip on this gown and you might look good enough to flirt with the cute interns =) Well, that's probably the last thing on your mind but at least you are trying to maintain some semblance of composure. The name "Dar a Luz" means to give birth in Spanish. This comes in this navy and also in pink, at Daniela Corte for $98.

Nicole Kidman Maternity Style

nicolekidman_oscars.jpgnicolekidman_beach.jpg
Photos courtesy of InStyle.com

Nicole Kidman is my ultimate most favorite celebrity. She is smart, beautiful and eternally graceful. So how does a mega star look so fabulous during pregnancy? The secret, it looks like, is to NOT look like you're pregnant. Hello!! I forgot to add to my list of odes that her body is a freak of nature. She goes from red carpet chic to everyday casual effortlessly. I absolutely loved her look for the Oscars, she paired the simple black Balenciaga dress with super fabulous layers and layers of L'Wren Scott diamonds, over 1,000 carats in all. She took away the focus from her body and had everyone just looking at the diamonds! Just keep in mind girls, these people are not normal =) And what do you think of the name Sunday for her daughter?

Rock Star Moms

Marley_Both.jpg

Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t show some sass! Rock Star Moms, started by a Florida mother of 3, has great finds including uber-fun tube tops to show-off your baby bump! I love the Marley ($49.99) ones for summer (though I could do without the gathering at the bottom).

sgtpepjul.jpg

Also fab is this Beatle Top ($64.99). I love the shade of gray and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is arguably my favorite Beatles album! Besides mommy fashions, Rock Star Moms has accessories, yoga wear, and super-cute girl and baby fashions:)

Cole Haan Aurora

These shoes MUST be shared with all who desire style AND comfort. As moms our poor tired feet really get a beating and we often times compensate for this buy wearing "comfy" shoes, meaning totally unflattering flats of some sort. For Mother's Day, treat yourselves to these Cole Haan Aurora Air Sandals $275. They come in various colors including black and neutral. This is a very popular style and comes back season after season in different colors so it is a wise investment as it will not go out of style anytime soon. I am telling you, you will not believe how incredibly comfortable these are, like pillows on your feet!! I will take full responsibility if you come home with even minor sore feet.

Stylish Mommy Aprons

mommyapron.jpgweepockets.jpg
My Mommy's Pockets (Full Apron) and Wee Pockets, in "Funky Punkin"

I am not an apron person because they make me feel like a 50's housewife. But what happens? I invariably gunk up my clothes while cooking and doing other things around the house. If only there was a cute apron out there! Well, voila, Progeny has come up with a whole line of aprons that are not only cute and quite sassy, they are full of functional pockets like no apron on the market! Let's get back to the cuteness and sassy-ness, the aprons come in sizes because they are fitted. They look like halter dresses and have defined busts and a slim waistline. The colorful, bright and beautiful prints promise to please the modern woman. But the idea behind these aprons are in the functionality - multiple size pockets strategically placed to accommodate a mommy's busy day and lack of extra helping hands. Wow! Now that's an apron I want! And to make this even sweeter and cuter, you can get a matching Wee Pockets for your daughter ($32). The My Mommy's Pockets come in sizes S-XL and are $55 (also available in quarter and half aprons).

Cadeau Maternity - Jersey Wrap Dress

cadeauwrapdress.jpg

I love this jersey wrap dress for two reasons: 1) comfort and 2) cleavage. I swear my boobs start growing from the moment of conception. Over the next nine months I enjoy the most amazing cleavage. I feel like I got a breast lift and implants without going under the knife. It's as if I'm in my early twenties again all voluptuous not saggy. Cadeau’s jersey wrap made of lightweight Italian cotton gently hugs your silhouette and provides a v-neck to let you accentuate a growing bust line. Hey, even if you don't feel your sexiest at 38 weeks showing a little cleavage always perks you up. Cadeau Maternity Jersey Wrap Dress $200 at Saks.

Snob or Slob: Sashay by Sassabies

sashay%201.jpgsashay%202.jpg

I have seen the Sashay by Sassabies popping up on the hot list for moms-to-be. I was a fan of the Bella Band through my second pregnancy. They are soft cotton tubes designed to span the gap between shirt bottoms and pant tops. They also help hold up your pants and cover the buttons you can't close anymore. A great way to expand your maternity wardrobe. Sashays are the next generation of Bella Bands.

Saskia Charbonneau moved from Holland to the states and brought her belly cover along. She was stopped by numerous people commenting on the stylish and practical sashay. They’d say, "I wish we could get these here (USA),” Charbonneau started making them to sell. Sashays are Dutch design and USA made. Ladies may wear them over or under shirts. When worn under a shirt, they add a great layered look, but I am wavering about the over the shirt look. The combination reminds me of the eighties Units belts meets maternity fashion. But if you wear it under your shirt, then you cover the cute belly design. Mom snobs, would you Sashay?

Chaiken Maternity

Chaikendress.jpg
V-neck Dress - $216

We all know fashion today is very friendly to expecting moms. However, I am so over hiding the baby bump until the seventh month. Hello, do celebs Christina, Nicole, and now J. Lo honestly think the public doesn't notice??? Wouldn't you rather the public embrace your pregnancy then suspect that you packed on the pounds? The moms of America certainly know you have more than a pasta lunch causing that bump. Did J Lo even confirm her pregnancy yet? Not that she needs too. I know Cavalli just claimed to People (read full story here) that designing for her is hard because she keeps getting bigger. Roberto, shame on you for selling out one of your favorite clients. Then she was spotted shopping with pal Leah Remini at Petit Tresor in LA. Why is she hiding it anyway? If she went through rumored fertility struggles and is finally pregnant, wouldn't you want to shout it from the mountain top? I understand waiting for the first trimester, but denying it until you’re at the end of the second is slightly ridiculous.

J. Lo, once you admit your preggers and have outgrown today's roomy fashion, you must purchase Chaiken Maternity. Celebrities and friends came to designer Julie Chaiken asking for a line of maternity wear, she gave them what she wanted too, a modified version of each season’s key styles. On her website Julie states, “You don’t give up your personality just because you get pregnant.” A mother herself, Julie created Chaiken Maternity to fit through an entire pregnancy. The collection is comfortable, as well as stylish. Her clothes fit under the belly which I so much prefer to the full over the belly panel. This way you can wear the clothes post baby too. Perfect for those with body types like mine because I am not one of those girls who walks out of the hospital in her skinny jeans. Available at Neiman Marcus.

Theality Maternity Wear

thealityvest.jpg thealityhoodie.jpg
Theality Urban Vest ($88) & Elaine Top ($72) at Neiman's and Heart Hoodie ($136) at Theality

First of all, I can’t stress the importance of staying fashionable while pregnant. As your belly grows and you feel bigger and bigger, it is easy to fall into a style rut. Even if you don’t feel sexy, putting on stylish clothes and a little lip gloss always makes you feel glamorous. Theality’s soft fabrics and form-fitting styles are just what the doctor ordered: comfy and chic. The fashion-forward line, started in 2006, is the fusion of the words "theory" and "reality". They take the hottest runway trends and transform them into realistic style for moms-to-be. With just three collections under their belt, Theality is already making an impact in maternity fashion. Recently, they were selected as one of only a handful of maternity designers sold at Neiman Marcus. For those that didn't know, Neiman Marcus sells maternity apparel online. Get the Urban Vest and Elaine top above at Neiman's or shop the entire fall collection online at Theality.

Lauren Kiyomi Fall Maternity

LKtwillpant.jpgfluttersleevetop.jpg
Lurex Twill Trouser ($98) & Flutter Sleeve Top ($60)

While primarily we write about everything for our Snobbiest of Tots, from time to time we will feature items for Snobby Mommies too. We all care deeply about our toddlers and want them to have all the fabulous things in life; however, we know Mom Snobs love to shop for their closets the most.

Our first story features a chic maternity line, Lauren Kiyomi. Willie Udagawa launched Lauren Kiyomi, named for her daughter, in October 2005. She works hard to ensure maternity wear is stylish and comfortable. Celebs such as Tori Spelling, Marcia Cross, Dayna Devon, and Amanda Peet all wore LK designs while pregnant. Lauren Kiyomi's (Japanese for pure beauty) mission is to fill the never-ending needs for fashionable and practical moms of all stages. Whether working, playing, or out after dark, Willie, a mom herself, has thought about everything and even has a few "nursing-friendly" tops. Thank goodness. I feel so many designers produce fabulous maternity wear, but leave moms in the dark for nursing apparel.

For fall, we love these Lauren Kiyomi Lurex Twill Trousers($98). The wide leg and 3" cuff emulates the non-pregnant fashion trends. Pair them with the Flutter Sleeve Top($60), with a flattering gathered neckline and short sleeves. If you are like me and constantly hot while pregnant, this will help balance the body thermostat. Both items are extremely versatile and very affordable. Available at Lauren Kiyomi.

Let Ready, Set, Deliver! Pack Your Bag

kit_open.jpg
Black Terry Kit - $110

As if preparing for a child isn’t stressful enough, now as your third trimester winds down you must “pack your bag.” Even if you have done this before, it always feels like the first time. Something always slips your mind. You are so focused on remembering everything you might need for the baby and Dad-to-Be (i.e. batteries charged for photos & video) that you forget to take care of you. Next thing you know, you have just given birth and visitors are showing up to catch a glimpse of the little one. Don’t get caught in frumpy nursing pajamas, no lip gloss, and disheveled hair. Ready, Set, Deliver! ensures Moms-to-be don’t lose their glow post partum.

Laura Thomas Mullen and Erin Zelle gave expecting friends the perfectly packed hospital bag as baby shower gifts. Their thought: Everyone buys something for the baby--why not indulge the mommy with a little something she might use? One day, after racing around town to get all of the items it occurred to Laura and Erin, new moms themselves: “why not just manufacture these ourselves?” weeks later the Ready Set Deliver! kit was born.

Laura, who created and runs the successful bag company My Tote supplied the chic bag which was later filled with all the hospital necessities:
1. Fuzzy slippers with a non-skid tread for cold hospital floors and middle of the night feedings.
2. Sleep mask because you’re going to need every second you can get.
3. Lip balm because glossy is great!
4. Chic nursing gown that you can later wear as anything from a bathing suit cover up to a comfy tunic--this is not your average nursing gown. Sized S/M and M/L with plenty of stretch.
5. Headband because we know how sweaty labor can be and the last thing you want is hair in your face.
6. Swim lined bag that you can later use for diapers, snacks, shoes.... it’s a cute bag--who doesn’t need one?!

Currently, the website displays only the black and white terry options, but the kits are available in a variety of prints. Just contact the company through the website. We all know how incredible it is to give birth--why not look great while you’re doing it?
